We were deeply moved by the story of Dave Galvin’s unfortunate accident last September (read more in The Westerner) and applaud the efforts of his friends and colleagues to raise money to help with much needed renovations for wheelchair access in the family home.
In asking the question, “how can we help”, we felt that it would be useful for the broader Samford community (not just our club) to be able to easily donate money to the family. To this end, we have set-up a facility on our web site to allow the public to make secure online credit card donations.

Sessions for this year's team photographs are as follows:
For teams playing home games on those days it is recommended that your sitting takes place before your game. For those teams that do not have games at home on these days, please ensure you arrive at our home ground in jerseys, training shirts or club polos (all players in the one type please, not a mixture).
The cost is $13 per photo and you will be required to pay your Team Manager on the day of the photo shoot for the number of photos you require.
Team Managers, order envelopes will be placed in team folders - please return them to the photographer on the day of your photo shoot. Please only order copies for those who have paid - don't assume the whole team wants one.
We are very excited with this week's announcement by Councillor Bob Millar (Division 11) that funding for the development of our new home at the Samford Parklands (opposite the new tennis/netball facility) has been approved to the tune of $5.5M!
$4m has been allocated to this financial year (2010/11) for major earthworks and the construction of partial roadworks and car parks, a fully lit full-size field and a small-sided-games field.
$1.5M has been allocated for the 2011/12 financial year for further works including the renovation of the existing Cash House on the site. Read more in The Westerner.

THICK SKINNED FORWARDS AND THE BENEFITS OF PERSISTENCE
Forwards have to be thick skinned. If they miss a goal it is no use angsting about it, or going into your shell never to shoot again. So what we witnessed at the weekend was Wade (rhinoceros) Godsell who missed enough chances to win three games, but skill kept plugging away at the KPR goal until he eventually got the one goal which gave us three points and a 1-0 win.
Wade is a fine example to the youngsters in the club of someone who kept plugging away and eventually got his reward. My own U13 team could have learned a lot from his performance since some of them missed similar (easy) chances, but their skin was a lot thinner and they did not keep persisting.
Played on a pitch that resembled the Somme, the game was memorable for the chances we made, for a final zero goals against (our first of the season), for the performance of Dave Bull and in fact the performance of the entire starting eleven. I was keen to get Adam Bostock off the bench and into the team, but Arno and I were looking at the eleven starters and finding it impossible to take anyone off for a player who is usually in the backbone of the first eleven.
Tonight we face Brisbane Athletic at Harold Brown Park and a win would see us battling it out with Annerley and Loganholme for the fourth spot and a possible GRAND FINAL. Whilst we are missing a few familiar faces (thank you splendor in the grass), we do welcome back prodigal son Damon Tune and in the reserves Ben Dwyer will be taking the park. We could be ending this inconsistent season with a bang! (Reporter: Michelle Forsyth)
Liverpool met Arsenal again today for another nail biting clash of the titans.
Arsenal’s relentless pursuit had us on the run throughout, but Liverpool didn’t go down without a fight!
Aiden, Elias, Hayden, Jessie, Rhys and Sean gave it their all showing glimpses of brilliant defence amongst the mayhem. The lads managed to get their feet to the ball at several integral moments – preventing goals, tackling assertively and chasing constantly.
We managed to get the upper hand several times and put Arsenal on the defence. Rhys got one ball into the net and set up the second goal allowing our Jessie to put it home – great team effort!
Hayden executed a couple of supreme ball “snatches” earning him Player of the Week. Well done, Hayden! We’ll get you next time, Sharks!!! (Reporter: Sharon Ortiz)
The Player of the Week and Birthday Boy Connor played a personal best and it was a legendary effort this week. His mum was overwhelmed with pride on the side lines. (Dazza you would not have been able to be silenced with this game!!) The beautiful noise of the sideline cheering and accolades from the parental cheer squad from both teams was outstanding and wonderful to hear, regardless of which team scored their goals.
The boys executed some very good tackles and strong running. At times in the game it seemed that they were running in their white lab coats. Captain Flynn (and this week’s best and fairest player) kept up the encouragement and played well himself with excellent offensive tackles and passes.
Lincoln and Connor displayed some excellent passing and tackling skills, and were rewarded with a goal each.
Dayboro gave Manchester United a fun and exciting game – thank you Dayboro, we look forward to our next game of the season on your home ground. (Reporter: Angela Dawes)
Once again the spectators were treated with a good game of football. Our passing keeps on improving and we keep the formation much better than before.
Aston Villa started with Ben in goal and he did not have much to do in the first 10 minutes. Michael, Rhys and Jacob created lots of chances. Harrison and Ryan held the midfield together, while Lapat played as a sweeper. Michael scored our goals in the first half.
Rhys played in goal at the seconds half and that free'ed Ben to join the attack - and he scored a great goal as well with a accurate shot from the edge of the box. Michael scored two more goals in the second half. Dayboro had their chances as well and scored couple of goals.
The player of the week award went to Jacob this time. He played a really solid game in the midfield and with little more luck would have scored goals as well. (Reporter: Kimmo Hietala)
It was an early game and our boys were asleep for the first half of the match. Arsenal were in their goal end for most of the first half and goalkeeper Seth did a great job at keeping them from scoring. Our backs, Connor and Lachlan worked tirelessly to get the ball back to our goal end. Liam and Anthony were always there supporting our backs. Jack was always in the thick of things supporting his team mates. Anthony was goalee in the second half and also stopped a number of attempts at goal by Arsenal. Player of the Week went to Jack for working tirelessly in both attack and defence. Well done boys!! (Reporter: Bronwyn Cleary)
On an overcast day and with a chill wind blowing across the South Pine Sporting Complex, Samford encountered probably their toughest match of the season in defeating Albany Creek Reds. Samford began enterprisingly with Ruari chipping in from up close in the second minute and soon after Oliver scored from a goal-front melee. But then the match settled and did credit to the Albany side which fielded five under 9 players. A 40m clearance by Rhys - one of many using his potent instep block-and-drive - created room for a goal by EJ, who repeated the dose just before half time. Albany’s single goal did not do justice to their effort, and Albany’s goalie did a great job saving at least five chances to restrict Samford’s lead. Albany were first to score in the second half but Samford immediately responded by drawing the goalie out of position for Benjy to deftly wrong foot him and shoot into an undefended net. Samford scored one last goal through some intelligent work by Ruari, Harrison, Daniel and Marshall, each unselfishly conspiring to pass into space for teammates to recapture possession. Observers considered that too often, after good lead up work, Samford’s strikers used the Albany Creek goalkeeper as a target instead of shooting around him into the corners. However some Samford goals came from length of the field ball movement, clear demonstration of improved teamwork. Daniel was everywhere on the field and deservedly won Player of the Week. We saw a flat side this weekend (short of two players; Callum and Dylan), busy in defence for most of the play. Zoe started as goal keeper with Bella, Euan and Tom on the back line. Konrad, Bryn, Grace and Maddy worked midfield, with Claudia, Alex, Mack and Kyle in attack. At half time we were down 3 goals but on the positive side Zoe took some great saves in the goal square.
At the break the Coach asked for the team to pep up. Players needed to get to the ball first. The mid field needed to run more, and for the forwards, although it was important to stay up the field, the forwards needed to read the play and fall back to help out.
In the second half we saw a few breaks into the Grange half. Mack teamed up with Alex for a good run up the right wing. Bryn covered a lot of paddock in the midfield. In defence Euan put in some great work tackling and passing the ball forward and was awarded player of the match.
So its back to training for Under 11 Div 4. Good luck for next week. (Reporter: Craig Warman)
From the beginning the team was put under pressure from the 'dodgy' manager saying lala land is no place for the weak hearted, it seemed to work.
It all started with a pass from Sophie to Ashley then to Britney who scored our first goal in the first minute. But the pressure from Annerley was straight back on us, the ball was going from one end of the field to the other, with no discrimination. They almost scored with the ball well over the head of Laura, but hitting the crossbar. They also went over the bar, but Laura saved most of the ones on target. We stopped counting all the tries that just missed by Ashley, Britney, Emily, Kate and Nicky. But Annerley came up with the goods and scored their first goal. Ashley hit back with goal number 2, then Sophie with goal 3. Jerry, Bec, Hannah and Rachel had a great game playing in defence. Georgia also had a crushing game by putting a few of the opposition on the back foot and bum.
Second half had Annerley scoring number 2 and the game was only beginning. Sophie got number 4 and 5 which gave her a hat trick and Skye with a nice lob over the goal keepers head for goal number 6, Sophie tied up the game with goal number 7. Well done girls. (Reporter: Gary Brouard)
