2022 Season Information for Juniors (Under 13 to Under 18)

The purpose of this document is to inform you of some important changes and dates with regard to the
Juniors teams for the 2022 season.

Registration Fees for 2022 for Juniors teams playing Community football (i.e. not FQPL Development) are unchanged from 2021.

As well as helping to cover the admin and running costs of the club, the Registration Fee also includes:

  • Membership to the Samford Rangers Football Club.

  • Fees and Registration with Football Queensland & Football Federation of Australia

  • Basic Player Insurance cover

  • End of season trophies & end of season Trophy Day

  • Regular season match and Referee fees (SRFC does not charge additional weekly match fees of $6-10 per week, unlike some other clubs in our area)

  • Team Photo for all teams up to and including Under 18

  • $30 Credit to use at the Club Sports Shop - only available once all Fees have been paid or a Payment Plan has been approved ($30 credit is not included in Miniroos Kick Off, FQPL Development or FQPL2 Senior or Under 23 registrations).

Under 13 to Under 18 (Juniors)

Samford Rangers FC will be entering Under 13 to Under 18 teams into the new FQPL Development league for junior boys in 2022. We also intend, numbers permitting, to enter additional teams of each age group into the Metro youth football leagues. Trials have already been held for FQPL Development and players for these teams have been selected. If your child was not selected for an FQPL2 team we encourage them to play in one of our Metro football teams in 2022.

Training for Junior Metro league teams will commence in February. Games begin on 4th March. For Under 13 teams, the first four games will be ‘grading games’ to ensure that teams are placed into appropriate divisions and there is a ‘like versus like’ standard.

Coaches and Managers

At this stage we intend to host a Coaches and Managers Information Night on Weds 23rd February.

Season Launch Day

At this stage we intend to host a Season Launch day on Saturday 26th February at Samford Parklands. As well as presenting the jerseys to our FQPL2 teams, this will also be a great day for the kids and we will be arranging some fun activities as well as some football games for everyone to get involved in.

Junior Competitions

Samford Rangers Football Club offers Junior Metro Football for boys and girls from U13 – U18.

All Junior teams play in competitive divisions. Football Queensland requires all clubs to nominate their Under 14 to Under 18 Junior teams into divisions according to ability during the pre-season period.

Under 13 teams will play 4 grading games at the start of the season and results from these games will be used to determine which divisions each team will play in.

Samford Rangers is aiming to have at least 1 team per Junior age group, so grading of players is done in pre-season to try and ensure individual players are playing in the team appropriate to their level of football development.

Junior Grading Process

Assessment of player ability is based on player performance at grading sessions and advice from club coaches.

The first grading sessions will usually be run in early December.  These sessions are an opportunity for all players (returning and new to the club) to be seen by the Club’s Technical Director and wider club coaching group.

The second grading sessions will usually re-commence in early February immediately after sign-on day with the finalised squads to be announced shortly after grading concludes.

Where possible all players should play in their correct age competition, i.e. U12’s play in U12. However, some players may need to play up a grade due to player numbers in an age group.

Final teams will be announced by email and listed on the website in February.  Any queries regarding junior grading should be directed to James Corner, Club Technical Director (td@samfordrangers.org.au). It is important to realise that team make up is not completely finalized until teams are announced and confirmed by email, in February.

The overriding intention of grading is to place players into teams with teammates of a similar skill level and to enter each team in a division of the competition that is appropriate to their skill level.

Getting in the right team is far more important than getting in the top team. Samford Rangers Football Club values all of its members regardless of their level of skill and experience.
