MATCH REPORTS

Team:
U11 Div 4 (0) v Pine Rivers (7)

Sat Aug 28 (Reporter: Craig Warman)

Samford Rangers Under 11 Div 4 were defeated 7 goals to nil but it was a spirited Samford team that took on the top of the ladder for the last game of the season.

Alex had a cracker of a game in the goal square and stood out as the player of the match. Some big kicks from the goal square put Samford back in attack on a number of occasions. On the back line Bella, Bryn and Tom were also playing well, Bella put in some big sprints and her cover defence was fantastic. In the mid field Callum showed some style early with a big header. Grace, Zoe, Konrad, and Maddy shared the midfield work but unfortunately Maddy took a hit to the side of her face and came off in the first half. To her credit she managed to recover and get back on the field. Up front, we saw some great attack from Kyle, Dylan, Claudia, Mack and Euan.

At Half time the coach pulled out all stops. It was the last match and we needed a goal for the chicken dance. The oranges were left aside and the kids loaded up on snakes for sugar.

Samford did lift in the second half and went all out. There were a lot of substititutions, and we saw some unusual combinations linking up on the forward line so that everyone got a chance. Although Pine Rivers managed to score 5 goals, most of these were from quick turnarounds. The bulk of the second half was played with Samford in attack at Pine Rivers end - we definitely deserved to see the Chicken Dance, but it wasn't to be.

The team has improved incredibly over the season and full credit goes to the Coach, John and our Managers Craig and Allison who have done a fabulous job over the season. Thanks on behalf of the all the kids and the parents.

U11 Div 4 (0) v Albany Creek (4)

Sat Aug 21 (Reporter: Alan Newton)

U11 Div 4 (0) v Peninsula Power (2)

Sat Aug 14 (Reporter: Craig Warman)

Samford Rangers Under 11 Div 4 played a hard game of defence against Peninsula Power on weekend, and were defeated 2 goals to nil.

The bulk of the game was spent in Samford’s half and to the team’s credit they scrambled and covered well to keep Peninsula to just two goals. Alex and Callum shared the goalkeeping, and both could have earned player of the match for some great saves.

In the first half Alex started in the goal square with Zoe, Tom and Euan on the back line. Konrad, Grace, Maddy and Callum worked the midfield with Dylan, Bryn, Mack, Kyle and Claudia in attack. We saw some excellent defence with both midfield and forwards dropping back to help out. Samford were in good shape at half time with the score nil all.

During the break the Coach emphasized to the team to stay spread out, and for more talking and calling for the ball. He asked more action up the centre of the field, and for players to look and run into the gaps.

The second half was similar to the first. Unfortunately Peninsula managed to capitalise on a few mistakes and score early. The coach moved Zoe to the forward line in an attempt to shake things up, and we saw some big efforts from Konrad, Euan, Maddy, Grace and Bryn (Player of the Match) but Peninsula were too good on the day, scoring their second and final goal mid way through the half.

Despite the scoreboard Samford Under 11 division 4 played some great football and kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. Back to training guys, good luck for next week.

U11 Div 4 (0) v Narangba (7)

Sat Aug 7 (Reporter: Alan Newton)

U11 Div 4 (1) v Mitchelton (0)

Sat Jul 31 (Reporter: Craig Warman)

Samford Rangers Under 11 Div 4 were a very different side this week, and it reflected in the results with a 1 goal to nil victory over Mitchelton.

The Coach shook up the regular line-up. Konrad went in goal to start. Zoe joined the forward line with Mack, Kyle Euan and Alex. Bella pinned the back line, flanked by Bryn and Tom. Maddy, Grace, Callum and Claudia shared the work in the midfield.

It was a tense match that flowed from one end of the field to the other. The training must be working because Samford held positions passed the ball well, and there was a lot of good talking and calling. Although both sides had several attempts at goal the half time score was nil all.

At the break the Coach told the team they were doing really well and to keep it up. There were no volunteers for goal keeper so he had to make a call and put Bryn into the goal square for the second half.

Early in the term Mitchelton came out strongly into Samford’s half and got away a number of shots at goal. Bryn was up to the challenge, and put body on the line to smother the ball. He saved 3 goals in this fashion, and won Player of the Match for his effort. Samford fought back and turned the tables when the backs and midfield got the ball up to Mack on the left wing. Mack crossed to Zoe, she passed onto Alex who then slammed a high ball over the keepers head into the net.

It was fabulous to see a lot of committed players out there today who all deserved player of the match. Keep it up and good luck for next week.

U11 Div 4 (0) v Grange Thistle (7)

Sat Jul 24 (Reporter: Craig Warman)

We saw a flat side this weekend (short of two players; Callum and Dylan), busy in defence for most of the play. Zoe started as goal keeper with Bella, Euan and Tom on the back line. Konrad, Bryn, Grace and Maddy worked midfield, with Claudia, Alex, Mack and Kyle in attack. At half time we were down 3 goals but on the positive side Zoe took some great saves in the goal square.

At the break the Coach asked for the team to pep up. Players needed to get to the ball first. The mid field needed to run more, and for the forwards, although it was important to stay up the field, the forwards needed to read the play and fall back to help out.

In the second half we saw a few breaks into the Grange half. Mack teamed up with Alex for a good run up the right wing. Bryn covered a lot of paddock in the midfield. In defence Euan put in some great work tackling and passing the ball forward and was awarded player of the match.

So its back to training for Under 11 Div 4. Good luck for next week.

U11 Div 4 (1) v New Farm (2)

Sat Jul 17 (Reporter: Craig Warman)

Samford Rangers Under 11 Div 4 were defeated by New Farm on the weekend 2 goals to 1. We were down two players (Bella and Dylan) but the team put in a fantastic effort and there were a lot of individuals that could have qualified for player of the match.

New Farm got off to a 2 goal head start in the first half. Callum started as goal keeper with Tom, Zoe, Euan and Alex on the back line. Konrad, Grace and Maddy worked midfield, with Claudia, Bryn, Mack and Kyle in attack.

At half time break the Coach said he wanted the forwards to stay up and wait for the ball to come to them. Also there was not enough talking, and the players needed to stay in position.

In the second half we saw some great football from Mack, Tom, Claudia, Kyle, and Grace (which may have had something to do with school holiday coaching clinc). Konrad put in a fabulous effort (Konrad missed the coaching clinic but his dad threatened to leave him at New Farm if the team lost).

Samford fought back when Mack trapped a high ball in the the goal square and booted it into the back of the net. There was a lot of proud cheering both on and off the field but unfortunately it was too late in the game to make a comeback.

In the end it was Callum who won player of the match for some excellent cover defence on the back line. Keep up the good work guys.

U11 Div 4 (0) v Pine Rivers United (2)

Sun Jun 27 (Reporter: Craig Warman)

Samford Rangers Under 11 Div 4 played a great game against Pine Rivers (top of the ladder) this weekend, but were defeated 2 goals to nil. Had it not been for a penalty goal in the second half, the margin would have only been 1 goal.

In the first half Alex started in the goal square with Zoe, Tom and Callum as the back line of defence. Bella, Mack, Maddy and Bryn worked the mid field with Claudia, Dylan, Konrad and Kyle in attack. We saw an entertaining first half of football as Samford spread out and kicked the ball up forward and on occasions had Pine Rivers scrambling for defence. The midfield ran hard and got back to help out when the ball swung into Samford's half, and it was unfortunate that Pine Rivers managed to goal late in the first term.

At half time break the Coach emphasized to the team to stay spread out, to keep talking and calling for the ball, to trap the ball and look for players to pass onto. He also asked for the mid field to keep running hard, in fact the whole team needed to come off the field with red faces from running hard.

In the second half Dylan swapped with Alex in Goal square. As usual, Zoe and Bella combined up the back to show Pine Rivers some hard defence.

The team picked up and we saw some great attacking from Samford, both Mack and Kyle got shots at goal but were unsuccessful. Konrad and Claudia were instrumental in the attack and Claudia was awarded Player of the Match for a massive effort on the field, she ran hard for both halves, won a lot of contests and put the ball into space.

At the end of the game everyone did come off the field with with red faces, and it was a fantastic effort considering we were playing the top team on the ladder and Samford were down two players (Euan and Grace). Keep up the good work guys we're looking forward to the next game.

U11 Div 4 (0) v Albany Creek (3)

Sat Jun 19 (Reporter: Craig Warman)

Samford Rangers Under 11 Div 4 were defeated by Albany Creek, 3 goals to nil. It was a hard fought game that Samford really only lost in the second half as they ran out of steam.

In the first half Dylan was the goal keeper. Zoe, Bella, Tom and Alex worked on the back line with Maddy, Grace, Bryn and Euan in the mid field. Albany Creek kept the defence on its toes. Dylan took some fantastic saves and Tom picked up player of the match for some excellent cover defence and clearing the ball out wide. The forward line was also impressive. Konrad, Claudia, Kyle, Mac and Callum did great job passing the ball into the gaps and taking on the Albany Creek defence.

Although half time score was one goal to nil in Albany Creek’s favour, the Coach was very positive on the state of the play. He stressed to keep doing what we were doing. Key points for the team were to trap the ball and look for where the passing opportunities were – not just boot it when it tuned up, and also for more talking and calling.

In the second half Dylan came out of the goal square, swapping with Konrad on the forward line. Euan was impressive in attack and together with Dylan Claudia, Mac and Kyle and Callum we spent a lot of time in the oppositions half. On the back line, Zoe and Bella were punishing in defence.

In the end Albany Creek managed to square away another two goals as we ran out of steam. Although we lost again this week it was an entertaining match from the sideline. The hard work at training is beginning to reflect in the style of play on the field - so keep up the good work guys.

U11 Div 4 (0) v Peninsula Power (3)

Sat Jun 12 (Reporter: Craig Warman)

Samford Rangers Under 11 Div 4 were defeated by Peninsula Power, 3 goals to nil. The score could have been worse but the goal keepers, Claudia and Mac did some fantastic work in restricting Power to only 3 goals.

Zoe, Bella and Tom formed the back line with Bryn, Euan, Callum and Maddy working midfield. The guys were constantly under pressure but when the team spread out and ran into gaps, we saw some good passing and Samford move into attack in the oppositions half.

The half time score was one goal to nil and Samford had the opportunity to fight back. Once again the coach stressed that we needed to talk more on the field, the midfield needed to get back to help out, and to watch control of the ball.

In the second half Mac, Konrad, Dylan and Kyle all had plenty of action up forward. Konrad and Bryn linked up with some good runs down the right wing, and Grace picked up the Player of the Match for some excellent work on the left wing. Worth mentioning Claudia’s effort in the goal square was also impressive with some good saves and big kicks up to the forward line.

Keep up the good work and good luck for next week.

U11 Div 4 (0) v Narangba United (8)

Sat Jun 5 (Reporter: Craig Warman)

Samford Rangers Under 11 Div 4 were defeated by Narangba United, 8 goals to nil. It was a tough day at the office for the Samford Rangers but on the positive side the team continues to improve. Despite the numbers on the scoreboard it was far from being a one-sided match.

Euan and Tom shared the goalkeeping. Bella, Alex and Zoe were on the back line. Dylan, Mac, Callum, Bryn and Maddy worked the midfield, and Claudia, Kyle, Konrad and Grace formed the attack.

A significant portion of the game was played in Narangba's half. Mac, and Konrad teamed up with some good runs up the center and left wing. On the back line, Zoe matched up against some classy attack, and stood out on the day as the Player of the Match.

The half time score was in Narangba's favour, 4 goals to nil. During the break the coach asked for more talking on the field, and for the midfielders to help out against the Narangba defence and even have a crack at goal if the opportunity presents.

In the second half Euan came out of the goal square, and together with Dylan, Kyle, and Claudia managed to scramble the Narangba defence. In the end though, Samford were unable to penetrate and convert opportunities.

So Under 11 Div 4 are back to training for to prepare for next week. Keep up the good work guys - persistence will pay.

U11 Div 4 (0) v Mitchelton (2)

Sat May 29 (Reporter: Craig Warman)

Although Samford Rangers Under 11 Div 4 were defeated by Mitchelton 2 goals to nil, the team showed a marked improvement from last weeks performance.

In the first half Samford handled the wet conditions really well. Once again Alex shone in the Goal square with a fantastic save. Bella, Zoe, Callum and Grace worked in defence with Tom, Maddy, Mac and Bryn in the midfield. Maddy (Player of the Match) was particularly impressive on the day with some good tackles on the Mitchelton attackers, and feeding the ball forward. The attackers Euan, Konrad, Claudia, Dylan, and Kyle all saw plenty of action.

At the half time the score remained nil all and the game was open for the taking. The coach was happy with the progress, and told the guys to stay spread out and continue what they were doing.

However, it was Mitchelton who managed to make the most of the opportunities and score the first goal of the match midway through the second half. Samford went on the attack with several attempts at goal but were unsuccessful, eventually losing by 2 goals on the day.

Keep up the improvement, and back to some hard training for next week!!

U11 Div 4 (0) v Grange Thistle (6)

Sat May 22 (Reporter: Craig Warman)

Samford Rangers Under 11 Div 4 were defeated comprehensively by Grange Thistle, 6 goals to nil. Goal-keepers Zoe and Bryn did a great job in limiting Grange’s score to 6 goals. Defenders, Bella, Konrad, Tom, and Alex were kept busy for the entire game with most of the play in Samford’s half.

Grange were 4 goals up by half time. At this point the coach stressed how important it was to spread out and stay in position, and he asked for a bigger effort from the midfield.

There was some improvement in the second half.

The midfield, Callum, Maddy, Grace, Ewen, and Claudia lifted and managed to get the ball up to the forwards Mac, Dylan, and Kyle. Mac (Man of the Match) played impressively. He made several breaks and worked the ball deep into the opposition’s half.

However, Grange proved far too good on the day, and the U11 Div 4’s have learnt some valuable lessons for next week.

U11 Div 4 (2) v New Farm (0)

Sat May 15 (Reporter: Craig Warman)

Samford Rangers Under 11 Div 4 enjoyed their first victory this season defeating New Farm United 2-0 in a hard fought match. Goal scorers were Kyle Warman and Mac, with both goals coming in the last 5 minutes. It was just as amazing to hear how the parents cheered!!

The whole team played a fabulous game. The Goal Keeper Alex cleared the ball well and kept New Farm running in a free flowing game. The backs defended well with solid performances from Maddy, Zoe, Bella and Grace. In attack, Euan, Mac and Bryn worked effectively with fantastic efforts from, Kyle (Man of the Match) and Claudia on the wings.

The centres, Dlyan, Konrad, Thomas, and Callum all showed good improvement as did the whole team in spreading out over the field and passing well. All round, a good team effort with the results to show for it. Nice work coach!

Great game boys. If all the shots that hit the goal posts counted this would have been a very high scoring game. Well done on learning the finer art of spreading out and distributing the ball. Scott the coach has worked hard with these boys and it is starting to show. Player of the week Isaac.
