MATCH REPORTS

Team:
Girls U15 Div 3 (2) v Annerley (0)

Sun Sep 5 (Reporter: Gary Brouard)

Must be the best match of the year, the girls played so well. In the first half we had many tries by Nicky, Ashley, Emily, while Brittany made one stick for our first goal. A number of incredible saves by Skye helped make the day. Emily had a shot for goal but the ball got stuck in a puddle. Laura and Lauren played well in defense.

Second half Nicky took a run and scored number two while Laura and Emily had a number of tries. Rachel had a good run and Bec was strong in all positions. Jerry, Zoe, Hannah and Georgia played with confidence holding off the attack.

Girls U15 Div 3 (6) v Brighton (1)

Sat Aug 21 (Reporter: Gary Brouard)

It was like a flick of a switch from last weeks game, even though the bulldogs were short at the beginning, our girls came out firing with a kick from Sophie to Kate scoring our first in 8 minutes and then Brittany to Nicky for number two by the tenth minute. Emily had a brilliant shot at goals for our number three and a number of crosses from Nicky and Kate went begging. Skye played well in goals saving all tries that the bulldogs dished out with the help from Lauren. Emily crossed to Sophie for goal number four and a big team effort from Jerry to Sophie to Emily then onto Nicky for goal number five. Ashley was good at doing corners and Kate played really well as sweeper making many clearances from almost certain goals. Goal number six started with Ashley to Emily finishing with Brittany.

Second half there were more bulldogs on the field putting the pressure on and also scoring their first and only goal of the game. Brittany had a few good runs. Kate, Georgia, Jerry, Hannah, Bec, Zoe and Rachel all played well in defence. Laura and Ashley played well in supporting our forwards. Great game girls we need to win next week, keep the spirit up.

Girls U15 Div 3 (7) v Annerley (2)

Sat Jul 24 (Reporter: Gary Brouard)

From the beginning the team was put under pressure from the 'dodgy' manager saying lala land is no place for the weak hearted, it seemed to work.
It all started with a pass from Sophie to Ashley then to Britney who scored our first goal in the first minute. But the pressure from Annerley was straight back on us, the ball was going from one end of the field to the other, with no discrimination. They almost scored with the ball well over the head of Laura, but hitting the crossbar. They also went over the bar, but Laura saved most of the ones on target. We stopped counting all the tries that just missed by Ashley, Britney, Emily, Kate and Nicky. But Annerley came up with the goods and scored their first goal. Ashley hit back with goal number 2, then Sophie with goal 3. Jerry, Bec, Hannah and Rachel had a great game playing in defence. Georgia also had a crushing game by putting a few of the opposition on the back foot and bum.
Second half had Annerley scoring number 2 and the game was only beginning. Sophie got number 4 and 5 which gave her a hat trick and Skye with a nice lob over the goal keepers head for goal number 6, Sophie tied up the game with goal number 7. Well done girls.

Girls U15 Div 3 (9) v Southside Eagles (1)

Sat Jun 26 (Reporter: Gary Brouard)

An incredible start to an unusual game with Southside scoring in the first three minutes. Bec and Lauren were doing good in the backs while Nicky and Sophie tried for goal but both hitting the posts and rebounding. Towards the end of the first half we moved the ball to the front with Ashley passing to Kate for our first goal and next Emily for the second.

After a motivating talk by the coach, Greg, in the club house our girls seemed to change like chameleons and with help from Southside they scored our third goal. Looking like one of the teams playing from the world cup the transformation was incredible, it seemed like we couldn't do anything wrong with goals coming from Georgia (well done)and an enormous kick from Ashley outside the 18 yard box to score our fifth. A pass from Sophie to Kate to Zoe scored number six and number seven was by Sophie from a deflection off an opposition player. Britney seemed to slow down the game and give everybody confidence to pass the ball around. Jerry played extra well in the backs to the annoyance of the opposition. Skye, Laura and Rachel all played solidly in the midfield. Nicky found the back of the net from an easy placed kick and Bec come up with number nine. Great second half game girls, you deserve a break from training. Well done.

Girls U15 Div 3 (3) v Brighton (4)

Girls U15 Div 3 (1) v Loganholme (1)

Sat Jun 12 (Reporter: Gary Brouard)

A tough game it was but a chance from a bad pass back by Loganholme almost gave Kate a good chance to score. There was a number of good lead ups starting from Laura to Emily to Kate, then onto Skye for a good try at goal. Britney, Laura and Lauren saved many attempts by Loganholme, but in the end, they did score.
Second half Sophie seemed to be our only hope with a number of good shots. Samford seemed to be in Loganholme's half most of the time and it paid off with Kate scoring the equalizer. Well done to Ashley, Zoe and Rachel who were good supporting the team.

Girls U15 Div 3 (3) v Logan Village (0)

Sun Jun 6 (Reporter: Alan Newton)

Girls U15 Div 3 (5) v Oxley (2)

Sat May 29 (Reporter: Gary Brouard)

The girls put the pressure on Oxley right from the beginning and Nicky finally scored her first goal of the season. A number of times the goal keeper over-stepped her 18 yard box and a free kick helped Brittany score goal two. Brittany had a good run passing to Kate who just missed. Emily played well in the backs as did Jaana, Rachel and Jerry. Kate finally got goal number three with a through kick from Jaana. There was a good pass up the field from Hannah and Nicky and then to Kate who scored number four. Oxley had a break in our defence for goal number one and number two shortly after.
Second half, Ashley played well in the backs with Brittany in good defence also. Skye, Sophie, Rachel, Laura, Zoe and Georgia played a good back up role feeding our forwards. Bec had a good time playing up front. Hannah had a great first game and Jerry had an amazing time scoring goal number five from a corner.

Girls U15 Div 3 (6) v Annerley (0)

Sat May 22 (Reporter: Gary Brouard)

The start of another great season with the girls showing their dominance of old. The score board doesn't justify how well all the girls played. A number of goals went begging with Kate, Nicky, Skye, Ashley, Zoe and Britney being unable to register. Kate brought the first brilliant goal up with a second from a pass by Laura. Zoe had a number of good runs and pressure was always on the opposition who were unable to get passed Sophie.

Second half had even more tries than the first. A corner from Skye to Rebecca scored number three. Emily had a good take from an opposition goal kick which rebounded from the goal keeper and back into the path of Sophie for goal number four. Jaana, Georgia and Rachel kept the pressure up so Annerley were unable to score.

Girls U15 Div 3 (0) v Virginia (4)

Sun May 2 (Reporter: Alan Newton)

Girls U15 Div 3 (0) v Peninsula Power (6)

Sat Apr 24 (Reporter: Alan Newton)

Girls U15 Div 3 (0) v Loganholme (18)

Sun Apr 18 (Reporter: Gary Brouard)

Only 11 players turned up making a hard game for the girls playing a continuous 45 minutes per half. One minute into the game, Logan opened the score board then in quick succession they had accumulated 8 goals by the end of the first half. What can I say, we were totally overcome by a group not only one year higher than most of us, but also one division higher from last year. Alyce was good defending and also taking the ball up the field.
Second half changes were forwards to backs and backs to forwards. It was a carbon copy of the first half with goal number nine one minute in and a total of 18 goals by the end. Emily had some good saves in goal. Zoe played good in helping the defence, along with Kate. Ashley and Sophie tried hard to score but the opposition was way too strong.

Girls U15 Div 3 (1) v Redlands (3)

Sat Sep 5, 2009 (Reporter: Mike Clahsen)

Semi-Final (2nd V 3rd): this one started fast and furious in the middle of a hot day at Mooroondu. End-to-end stuff with Kate opening our account in the 15th minute from close range after some good lead-up work by Izzy.

They say the most dangerous time for a team is the couple of minutes after scoring and didn't that prove to be true with Redlands' danger player breaking through our defence and finishing with a well struck shot just two minutes later. 1-1 at the break.

With the wind behind them in the second half, coupled with the speed of their strikers, Redlands started to break through our last line of defence more often. Thankfully Cora was quick off her line with some well-timed clearances. Unfortunately late in the half, the opposition broke through one too many times and went ahead 2-1.

Meanwhile at the other end we were still creating plenty of chances but their keeper pulled-off some magnificent saves to deny us every time.

With 7 minutes to go, one of the Redlands' players inexplicably collapsed on the ground with what appeared to be a broken hip. After a 20 minute delay for the ambulance the game restarted and within a couple of minutes Redlands put the game out of reach with their third goal.

On Friday night when it looked like more than the maximum 16 players would be available for the game (we have 19 in the squad), Lauren Benson volunteered to sit-out the game rather than draw names out of a hat - many thanks to Lauren.

I've only been coach of the team for the last 4 games of the season and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience with such a great bunch of girls. Thank-you for all of the positive support shown by the players and their parents in my short time with you all.

Girls U15 Div 3 (3) v Peninsula (0)

Sat Aug 29, 2009 (Reporter: Mike Clahsen)

At home to a 10-man Peninsula who were 8th on the ladder looked like a fairly easy proposition but to the visitor's credited they made it a more even game than the final score would suggest.

After a frustrating start to the game where we created plenty of chances without any joy, Rachel demonstrated her wonderful kicking technique with a couple of unstoppable shots to put us up 2-0.

One more goal to Kate from close range before half time and we went to the break with a 3-0 lead.

The second half was a more even contest with Peninsula looking more threatening to score than they did in the first half. We too came close a few times - Lauren Bromfield's well-placed shot forced a fine save from their keeper and Rachel was unlucky not to get her hat-trick when she unleashed another scorcher which hit the cross-bar and Kate was unlucky not to put away the rebound.

In patches our man-mark has improved from previous weeks but there is still room for improvement. Jess, Tina and Jordan had particularly good games in the last line of defence and contributed significantly to our first clean-sheet in 6 weeks. Well done also to Gabby who put in a huge amount of running in mid-field.

Congratulations to the girls and everyone else who has been involved with this team throughout the year for finishing the season in 3rd place and qualifying for next Saturday's final against 2nd placed Redlands.

Girls U15 Div 3 (2) v Regents Park (1)

Sat Aug 22, 2009 (Reporter: Mike Clahsen)

10:30am kick-off in 30 degree heat at dry, dusty Regents Park was made even tougher when the home side ran hard at us from the start.

Poor marking and being beaten to the ball meant that the home side had most of the play in the first half and were duly rewarded with the opening goal. They were unlucky not to score again when a wonderful shot hit the crossbar. 0-1 at half time.

Luckily we won the toss so that we would have the significant breeze behind us in the second half. This was a telling factor and as the half wore on we gradually gained the upper hand with goals to Rachel and Odelle to secure the win. Special mention to Odelle, Gabby M and Jordan who showed little sign of fatigue despite having been involved in school sport prior to the game.

Since the girls play in a ten-team competition, not all teams have the opportunity to play each other twice. For the teams that do play each other twice, only the best result is counted. Since we beat Regents Park and next week's opponents, Peninsula, in the first round, we cannot advance our position on the table and will finish the season in 3rd place regardless of today's and next week's results.

Girls U15 Div 3 (1) v Bayside (3)

Fri Jun 19, 2009 (Reporter: Garry Bromfield)

First loss of the season for the girls after a late re-schedule to Bayside’s home ground due to a fixture clash with the O35 Men’s. Unfortunately several girls could not make the game including our regular g/k. As fate would have it a couple of unlucky g/k errors proved the difference between the teams.
Gabby, Lauren, Alex, Gaby Mc and Jess all tried hard while Liz “Ronaldo” Sydes put forward her nomination for goal of the season with a cracking 25m goal. Heads up girls, we’ll keep improving. POW Has to be Lizzie !!
