The fixture list for this week-end's Junior (Under 9-16) games is available on the home page of our web site. There have been some last minute changes so please check to see if your team has been affected.
The Under 6/7/8 fixture list for the first six week-ends of the season is now available on the home page of our web site.
Coaching Clinic this coming Monday
Our Directors of Coaching, Garry Bromfield and Arno Tretter, will be conducting the first Coaching Clinic of the season this coming Monday night (17th of March) at our home ground at Richards Rd. There will be two sessions on the night with Rooball (under 6-10) from 6pm to 7pm to be followed by the older teams from 7:15pm to 8:15pm. All coaches and any interested parents are welcome to attend.
Under 6/7/8 field ready by the end of the month
The renovation of the Under 6/7/8 playing surface is in its final stages with the turf having been laid a couple of weeks ago. Weather permitting, the field should be ready for the first fixtures on the 29th of March. Thank-you to all of the under 6/7/8 teams for using the Highvale Cricket Ground in the interim.
Training Schedule
It is no secret that we have a critical space shortage at our current premises are Harold Brown Park and the move to the Samford Parklands cannot happen soon enough. In the meantime we must make the most of what we have at our disposal now.
The biggest issue is managing the huge amount of foot traffic on our only full-size field. Understandably, all of the older teams want to train on the Main Field. Unfortunately the field will simply not stand-up the rigours of all of our teams training and playing fixtures 7 days a week for six months of the year. We must spread the load across all of the playing surfaces available to us (i.e. under 6/7/8 and under 9/10 fields).
Last season, the Rooball fields were completely unused after 6:30pm while the Main Field was overcrowded. To facilitate a situation where these smaller fields can be used by the older teams after 6:30pm, Councillor Bob Millar has provided us with the funds to upgrade the under 6/7/8 playing surface and to erect additional lighting on both the under 6/7/8 and under 9/10 fields - thank-you very much for the assistance Bob!
A Training Schedule is available on our web site (click here) and we ask that all teams strictly adhere to it otherwise there is the real risk of the field deteriorating to a point where the Council will deem it unsafe for play. Such a situation would be disastrous for us as it would mean we would virtually have to stop playing all together as there are no alternative grounds available to us. So, once again, please adhere to the Training Schedule, including the field you have been allocated (i.e. don't move on to the main field and train there even it there appears to be plenty of space).
Stay-out of the Main Field Goal Areas!
Coaches and Managers, please insist that your players stay out of the main field goal areas at training, before & after the game and at halftime in an effort to reduce the enormous amount of wear and tear that these areas of the field experience. Once the under 6/7/8 field is ready for training in a couple of weeks, a full-size goal will be placed there for shooting practice.
Samford Hotel Raffles
Selling raffle tickets at the Samford Hotel for an hour or so on a Friday night is a handy little income earner for the club. We are very fortunate that Murray Withers has single-handedly taken on this job on behalf of the club over the last couple of years but due to shift-work, Murray is not always available. Please give Murray a call on 3289 6335 or 0439 896 336 if you can help-out on one or more of the following Friday evenings - 28 March, 18 April, 9 May, 30 May or 20 June.
Rooball Ref Coordinator needed URGENTLY!
We have had several enquiries from aspiring Rooball referees and have had to give them the bad news that no one is willing to take-on the Rooball Ref Coordinator job. Surely our kids deserve better than this?
Should no one be forthcoming then we will have to hand the responsibility of refereeing the Rooball games to the parents and several of our juniors will be without a week-end job. Rooball Referee training commences soon so please contact Mark Halle ASAP if you can take on the Rooball Ref Coordinator role.
Newsletter Editor Needed
We are in need of a Newsletter Editor for our weekly newsletter, The Shot. Please contact Mike Clahsen ASAP if you can assist. The first edition is due to be published on the Monday after the first round of junior fixtures (31st of March).
Goals for Sale
We are currently selling our spare under 9/10 sized metal portable goals for $100 each. Please contact John Atkinson if you are interested - first come, first served.
Club Polo Shirts on their way
All players and one coach and one manager per team will receive a new club polo shirt this season. We expect these to arrive at the end of April.
New Jerseys have been ordered
Unfortunately a number of jerseys were not returned last season which has left us low of stocks for the commencement of this season. Our Equipment Manager, Heather, is doing the best she can to keep all teams happy but is facing an uphill battle. We have ordered 400 new jerseys to arrive around the third or fourth fixture of the junior season. This will also enable us to outfit all teams (U9+) in the new jersey introduced last season (pictured).
